I'm continuing to catch on to this parenting business...I no longer have a 1 year old, I now have a 13 month old. I'm sure glad adults don't measure their age in months because I just had a birthday and I'd rather not do the math...Kale started walking at my mom and dad's July 3. We were all outside and all of a sudden, he just started off, on his own, across the lawn. I always knew it would happen, but it still makes your heart stop a little. At home he was still pretty shaky around the house and was always reaching for a hand for help. That all stopped just a few weeks ago. Now he cruises around on his own, from room to room.He also loves squatting down next to something and then popping back up. He laughs when we say "down" and "up". He would totally win a baby quads muscle contest...not that we're entering him into one.He also has recently started hating baths before bed. He loved them up to this point, but I think, quite simply, he'd rather be walking. We may have to start resorting to the garden hose.

My Brother's Wedding
My brother was married on Saturday.I always knew my brother to be a kind, quiet, hard working guy, but it showed in the preparations for this wedding. He and his new bride put the finishing touches on their special day with just 2 weeks notice...moving their wedding date up from Sept to July to ensure the bride's mom could see her daughter get married. It was a beautiful day with many heartfelt moments. My sister and I agreed that Kesha was one of the most beautiful brides we'd seen.Kale sported his suit well and slept through Uncle Darin's entire wedding. They were married in a quaint church in the country. My sister and I were readers and it was Darin's idea to have us select the scripture to read for the ceremony. I selected Psalm 37:3-6.My brother was cool as a cucumber...as usual.Kesha was emotional on her way up the aisle. So many thoughts going through her head, I'm sure. She quickly turned me emotional too.A cute moment when the ring wouldn't go on the finger. It was a little warm in the church with no AC...Food and dancing followed. The bride, bridesmaids and many of us wore purple ribbon tatoos for Kesha's mom.So many new, wonderful memories.Darin and Kesha, here's wishing you all God's best in your marriage. We love you and support you in this new journey! Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

1st Haircut
Kale had his 1st haircut on Friday. With Uncle Darin's wedding this coming weekend, we thought it was finally time. Here he is before...During...Brenda, the hair cutter, gave Kale an A for the day. He did really great. He wasn't as much of a fan of getting the front cut, but he hung in there! We left with his locks in an envelope and a certificate of completion! And after...

The Fourth
Although I'm a bit behind on blogging, I couldn't help but post a few pics from our 4th of July evening. Since we have a one year old who prefers (okay, correct word is needs) to be in bed between 7:30 and 8PM, we opted to skip the fireworks scheduled to start in town at 10. Instead, we sat out on our front patio and enjoyed the sites and sounds of a July evening. Thank you to our men and women who are serving our country-especially Kent and Mark! We are so excited you guys are returning home this month!

Prayers for Laura
D's soon-to-be sister-in-law Kesha's family could use prayer. Kesha's mom Laura has been diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. Laura has been in a lot of pain and recently began a new treatment plan. She is currently home with her husband, Dan.
Darin (D's brother) and Kesha had planned to be married in September but are looking to move the wedding to this month. I ask for prayers for them too, as they work to get things in place and as they provide their love and support to Laura.
Darin and Kesha-we love you and continually lift you in prayer!
